Just over three years ago I landed my dream job, combining my love of and education in photography and writing, with my skills in account management. What does this have to do with beauty? At the beginning, nothing, but as I settled into my new working environment and colleagues turned into friends I learned that one particular colleague, Charlotte, had been referring to me as the girl with amazing eyeliner – or something to that effect – and so suddenly we were gassing about make-up and techniques like we’d been braiding each others hair for years!
Upon this most excellent discovery of our mutual interest in blushers and lip balms, we took our thoughts to the Editor of the beautifully glossy title, Cambridge Edition Magazine, and before we knew it were proud journos of a monthly beauty column. A few issues in and my co-writer left our shared workplace. We decided that keeping a blog together would be the perfect place to house our beauty thoughts and stay in touch, so, Not the Nine to Five was born, a place to talk all things blushers, bulldogs and banana bread – basically all the great stuff that we liked to do when not on the nine-to-five working day.
Cut to today, and I’m still scribbling for Not the Nine to Five, and contributing a monthly column to Cambridge Edition as a Beauty & Lifestyle journo, but as a self-confessed make-up addict I started The Day’s Eyes as a beauty diary to share my thoughts, reviews and how to’s. My position at the magazine means I’m lucky enough to sometimes get a heads up on products before they launch, and have been introduced to some brands I wouldn’t necessarily come across otherwise and so I’m super-keen to share this with others.
Need to know:
Red hair – I always dye my hair at home, and happy to share my results. I’m currently using L’Oreal Casting Creme Gloss in shade Cherry Red.
Pale AF – Let’s call it English rose, my complexion is super pale, I use Lancôme 010 and Bobby Brown 0 Porcelain
Cat flicks – A desert island must-have for me, there aren’t many liquid eyeliners I haven’t tried.
Iridescent eyeshadow – forever on the hunt for the perfect pearly shade
Lashes – plenty of them!
Deep berry lipstick – hunting for that perfect shade, that lasts all day.
Vintage – Big fan of the 50’s and 60’s.
Photography – I use an Olympus PEN E-P5 & E-PL7 for all of my photography.
Frenchie’s and Capri’s – My six year old French Bulldog Roxy, and my 1985 Ford Capri often make appearances over on my instagram feeds:
I’m unbelievably envious of your eyeliner prowess!! I have long since given up with it, but maybe you can persuade me to persevere… Will keep reading! 🙂 xx

Aw thanks, Emma! You must keep trying – I swear if you keep at it you do get that light bulb moment. However, if it makes you feel better, I do still get days where I feel forced to go for the panda look :/
