Oskia skincare review

I have a problem. If you hadn’t already noticed I’m a huge beauty junkie. To me, this is kind of a great problem – I love nothing more than trying new products and make-up, but I’m particularly fussy when it comes to skincare. Because of my gregarious ways with lotions and potions it has to take a really great product to truly stand out to me and raise my (on point) brows. Introducing Oskia, the brand that’s got me super excited about skincare…

 

 

A couple of months ago I was introduced to British brand Oskia by the lovely Beccy On Beauty, who explained how the philosophy behind the company is all about a nutritional balance for the skin, feeding not only from the outside but also from within. Oskia believe that your beauty regime should include essential cell nutrients like vitamins, minerals, proteins and fatty acids. The key ingredient in all of their products is MSM, known as the ‘Beauty Mineral’ which is the most bio-available form of sulphur; critical for cell processes and collagen production. Taking the science out, Oskia are firm believers of a long-term, natural approach to great skin, and I am oh so on board. I love the natural, ethical ethos and the idea of feeding the skin. All that talk of feeding, the proof has to be in the pudding. I’m going to talk about four products here, the first being the Micro Exfoliating Balm. Now let me just start by commenting on the lovely packaging. This 50ml jar is made from thick glass, with simple branding and looks really luxurious on show in your bathroom. The product is beautiful and was the first Oskia item I tried where I was captivated straight away and just knew I was in for something good. Packed with tons of vitamins, MSM, probiotics and omegas, rose hip, kukui nut and sweet almond oil is also included. Unlike other exfoliations this balm is designed to restore the lipid barrier – meaning your skin is actually left feeling nourished and soft rather than tight and desperate for moisture. The product smells sweet and delicious and turns to a creamy milk on contact with water, making it easy to create as much, or as little exfoliating power as you require. At £46 for 50ml I would see this pot lasting a pretty long time – though I would say it is gentle enough to use daily and definitely suitable to sensitive skins. 

Now for my favourite so far, the Renaissance Mask. This heavenly formula smells like Turkish delight and mimics the consistency of the sweet melted confection. Gooey, sticky and sweet this is the product I’ve been looking for for so long. Great for knackered winter skin, this nutri-active brightening and resurfacing mask costs £48.59 for 50ml and contains passion fruit, grape, lemon & grape suit AHA’s, papaya enzymes, Swiss garden cress liposomes, probiotics, ribose & butterbur (which sounds like something from Harry Potter but is an Asian plant extract). Designed to boost radiance this organically certified mask has exfoliating properties to gently remove old skin cells and boost cell regeneration thanks to the inclusion of MSM. I saw an instantly brighter complexion and reduced pore size from this hydrating skin feed. 

I was initially wary of facial oils, but after educating myself have embraced the beauty trend that’s here to stay. The Restoration Oil is a product I recently featured in my editorial round up on winter skin savers, and is a real holy grail of a product. At £60 for 30ml, it’s a bit of a splurge product but I must stress that a little really does go a long way so this pretty green bottle should stay happily in your cabinet for months. Unlike some oils I’ve used before, I found this blend to be particularly light. With natural oils and extracts including turmeric, starflower rose hip seed and evening primrose oil it’s designed to heal, firm and hydrate as well as replenish the skin to improve elasticity for a radiant complexion. Can be used morning and night on its own or even by adding a drop or two to your moisturiser.

Finally, I was excited to try Oskia’s everyday moisturiser, the Nutri-active Day Cream. £52 for 30ml, the product comes in a glass pump-style bottle and contains a ton of nourishing ingredients including various vitamins, milk peptides, probiotics, omegas, minerals, MSM and calcium. This anti-aging day cream is incredibly lightweight but amazingly offers all day hydration and provides a beautiful base for keeping my make-up happy on my combination skin (oily nose, dry forehead). Supporting collagen production this cream promotes long-term skin health and elasticity and feels so luxurious to use. On the recommendation from Beccy I added a couple of drops of the restoration oil mixed with a pump of this day cream between my palms and smoothed over skin for a deeper hydration. Perfection.
